Alberta is widely considered a wealthy province, driven by oil and other non-renewable resources like fresh water, in addition to being the home of many of Canada's rednecks.
As a resident though (even in "Cowtown" itself), I can tell you that the stereotypical hayseeds only seem to come out during the Calgary Stampede and I don't know even know what an oil sand is, much less consider it a major part of my life as an Albertan.
[edit] Notable Places
Alberta contains a few pertinent geographic locations and, being the province that I've lived most of my life in, this is obviously an incomplete list:
- Calgary - The largest city, both geographically and by population.
- Edmonton - The capital city and obviously a natural rival to Calgarians--most people from Edmonton know deep down that we pretty much kick their ass at most everything. ("What bias!?")
- Red Deer - Another growing urban area that's trying desperately to catch up so we can have this cool little tri-city thing stretching across the oily, oily province.
This article is a stub, which essentially means that I have more to say on the subject, however I have prioritized fleshing out other content before this one. If you want to see more content in this article, please say so on the talk page and I will move it up the queue by request!
