Vortals
From Et cetera
A vortal is supposed to refer to a "vertical portal" of data or information related to a particular subject. The term seems to have grown out of the digital age and describes items found almost exclusively on the internet.
For example, Wikipedia Portals contain insightfully organized links to articles related to a given topic as well as summarized versions of key information. Using vortals to their full advantage requires some basic operational computer knowledge, and I've found that generation gaps are a big part of the reason that they are not as informative for all readers as they should be. Being able to navigate a computer and having a base understanding of how a database references its information is very helpful in being able to get the most out of any vertical portal.
Et cetera contains many vertical portals to sub-sections of this website that address specific topics, however it could also be said that Et cetera is really not much more than a vertical portal into who I am.
